Abinet’s story is one of perseverance and great faith in the face of adversity. After losing his mother when he was just three years old, his father began raising him with the help of his family. His father converted to christianity a few years later, at which point his family considered him and Abinet dead to them and Abinet became a street boy. Fortunately his father had become a part of the church and the pastor of the church ask Hand of God to bring him in the support program. The director of Hand of God, Tilahun Amanu said yes, but he needed a place to live. Tilahun knew his grandmother and knew that in her heart she loved Abinet and convinced her that with the monthly support she would be able to raise him. Although high school was turbulent, his hard work and dedication eventually paid off. His dream was to work in the medical field and he was accepted into, and three years later graduated from nursing school. Today he is head clinical nurse in a medical clinic at a village outside Gondar. It is heartening to see that despite the challenges he faced, Abinet never lost sight of his goal. His success serves as a testament, that with faith in Jesus and commitment, anything is possible. We are grateful for the support of those who helped fund his education and provide monthly support. They have played an integral role in helping Abinets dream come true.

How does the donation portion of Spiritual/Financial Adoption work?

We only accept orphans or children with only one parent into the program. We call these vulnerable children, really the poorest of the poor. When you give your monthly donation of $60, it makes it possible for a single mother, or a family member of an orphan, to feed and raise the child. The children meet together with the Coordinator/Leader of the cell group your child is a part of. The leader (leaders if it is a young married couple, which is what we hope for each group)becomes a mentor, pastor, father/mother figure, life coach and teacher in the lives of the children and families of the children. The groups are never more than 25 children. This gives the leaders an opportunity to become a life changing person in the lives of each child. They all come together once or twice a month to play, listen to teachings about life, become best friends and a big family. It is at these meetings they are given the monthly support money. The only condition for a child to stay in the program is that they stay in school. The commitment of Hand of God to each child is that we will continue to support them through their entire educational experience. This includes Vocational School, College or University. In most cases that is a 10 to 12 year commitment. All this is possible only because of your faithful monthly giving.
